Awards

Redoak Brewery has been brewing beers locally for over 10 years under the watchful eye of head brewer David Hollyoak. David is one of Australia’s most prolific and highly awarded brewers having won major awards in USA, UK and Europe with a depth and variety of beer styles unsurpassed. David enters beer competitions to benchmark his beers against the best of the best. To win a major award, a beer must be simply outstanding and full of flavour, aroma and taste.

We are quietly proud of the brewers achievements. But, we always say the most important judge is the person holding the glass. So, come and taste our beers and see for yourself why Redoak beers are ‘world class’.

SYDNEY ROYAL BEER SHOW

SYDNEY ROYAL BEER SHOW

Close to home, the NSW Royal Agricultural Society (RAS) runs the Sydney Royal Beer Show annually and attracts a high standard and growing numbers of entries. Redoak has competed for over 10 years. It’s an opportunity to benchmark beers within the local industry and recognises excellence.

The RAS runs the competition true to the international definition of beer as a product, producer and exhibitor. Namely that “beer means the produce, characterised by the presence of hops or preparations of hops, prepared by the yeast fermentation of aqueous extract of malted or unmalted cereals, or both.”

EUROPEAN BEER STAR, GERMANY

EUROPEAN BEER STAR, GERMANY

European Beer Star entries are evaluated solely on sensory criteria: colour, odour, foam and natural taste. The jury, consists of brewmasters, beer sommeliers and selected beer experts, test the beers in a blind taste test. The competition values authentic, full-flavoured, high-quality beers full of character. Only one gold, silver and bronze medal is awarded in each of the 51 beer categories, making it the most competitive beer competition in the world. Its goal is to present and honour the unique diversity of beer styles that have their traditional roots in Europe, but any of the world’s breweries can participate.

WORLD BEER CUP, USA

WORLD BEER CUP, USA

The World Beer Cup, considered the ‘Olympics of Beer’, is the world’s largest and most diverse beer competition – more than 2,500 entries, over 550 breweries, over 60 countries. It’s a global stage for breweries to showcase the quality, craftsmanship, flavour and diversity of beers.

WORLD BEER AWARDS, UK

WORLD BEER AWARDS, UK

World Beer Awards are judged both in UK and Europe over an 8 week period by international judging panel (judges from UK, Europe, USA, Japan, Australia and beyond). The competition attracts a “very high standard of entry” and the calibre of judging is high.

INTERNATIONAL BEER CHALLENGE, UK

INTERNATIONAL BEER CHALLENGE, UK

International Beer Challenge, UK’s largest beer competition running for over 18 years. It attracts entries from over 30 countries. The judges are experienced international beer judges, retailers, importers, publicans, brewers, writers and flavour analysts to ensure there is breadth and depth in the judging process. The competition prides itself on rewarding quality and celebrating excellence. Each beer is judged on its appearance, aroma, taste and finish: to achieve any kind of medal is a real achievement. We were stoked to win the top award ‘Supreme Champion’ two years running in 2013 & 2014. Over the years, we’ve won many Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies.

When you’re in the venue, look for the awards and trophies in the awards cabinet or behind the bar. We are proud of our brewers for their breadth and variety of award winning beer styles, from light to dark, low alcohol to heavy beers, familiar to rare brews, such as: Aussie Lager, Honey Ale, India Pale Ale, Old Baltic Porter, Rauch (smoked beer), Special Reserve (wood-aged barley wine). Framboise Froment (raspberry wheat beer), Weizen Doppel Bock, Winter in the Rye (rye bock), Schwarzbier, wee Heavy Ale (Scottish strong dark ale) and Lambic Blackberry (Belgian sour beer).
