wee Heavy Ale  (2008 vintage) launch- Friday, 19th September from 6pm.

The wee Heavy's reputation builds every year as the 'biggest' beer launch of the year. It is a truly amazing beer and served on tap for one week of the year only. To do the Scottish Ale justice, we will have a scottish bagpiper, all staff will be donning kilts and scottish nibbles will be served between 6-7pm.

The 2008 Vintage is a bold malt driven Scottish Ale with a deep, reddish brown hue. Redoak’s “wee Heavy” is a Scottish Ale in the traditional style, brewed using the finest Pale and Dark malts and a genuine Scottish Ale yeast.  This brew is particularly complex with a  smokiness created by a peated malt from McCallums Distillery in Scotland. With an alcohol content of 8% this rich, malty sweet ale certainly lives up to its name (8%)

Come along, share some tales, enjoy a few drinks and kick off your long weekend with a bit of fun. Wear your kilt and enjoy a free beer on the house. Please do not plan to drive afterwards as at 8% alcohol, this is a serious ale.

Redoak turns 4... (Thursday, 10 July)

A milestone indeed! What a long way we have all come on our journey of beer excellence. And what a busy four years it has been - brewing beers, cooking up delights for all of you our wonderful customers who know and appreciate a good beer when you see, smell and taste one!

So.......please gather some friends and help us celebrate this big birthday with David, Janet and the Redoak team. Canapes will be served from 6pm and bring on your party shoes and let's celebrate.

Another great result at World Beer Cup, USA (Celebration is Friday, 27 June)

A few weeks ago, we sent David (Master Brewer, or otherwise known as 'beer magician') to San Diego, USA for the Craft Brewers World Expo and World Beer Cup presentation dinner.

While he came back exhausted from lots of brewery visits, expo lectures and meeting many legends in the world of beer, he is full of enthusiasm and knowledge. He was really taken aback to discover that Aussie brewers are held in high regard across the USA and Australia is indeed at the leading edge of many new developments in the beer world.

We were delighted that he could accept in person the Gold medal won for our signature beer (Framboise Froment) in the fruit beer category. The World Beer Cup, as many of you know, is the world's largest beer competition attracting over 2,864 entries.

Come in and enjoy the winning brew Framboise Froment, a raspberry wheat beer, on Friday, 27 June from 6pm.

Not a beer for the faint hearted - Redoak's American Pale Ale (Friday, 20 June)

Redoak's American IPA is an awesome brew and is being launched Friday, 20th June from 6pm.

The brewers have excelled with this one! This beer may not be around for long as an excessive amount of hops are used and with the price of hops soaring, it may not be repeated. A heavily hopped Pale Summer Ale creates a bold bitterness with quite fruity and floral characteristics. The strong aromas of hop resins mallow out into strong floral aroma's. On the palate a malt sweetness opens up into a full bodied ale with a rolling bitterness that cascades over the top of the beer and the bitterness mallows into a smooth finish (6.5%)

'

State of Origin' (Wednesday, 11 June & 2 July)

Gather a group of colleagues or friends and watch the games on the big screen. Why not book a bar table to watch the match if you want. During the game all main courses will be served with a FREE matching beer.

End of Financial Year (Monday, 30 June)

Yet another financial year is soon to pass us by. Don't let it pass you by without taking time out to gather colleagues, clients and friends and toast to another tax year! To ease the year end financial burden or to make sure you don't blow your budget, we can offer you beverage packages starting from $25pp or set menus for 2 courses for $35pp.

Winter Warmers

With these long cold days in mind, our Brewers have created a special Porter to warm our taste buds. It was a very popular beer last year, so to be sure there is enough to go around, the brewers have filled Brite Beer Tank #2 to the brim but it is being drunk fast so drop by soon.

Redoak's Porter is a traditional English porter and has a rich dark brown colour with a tint of red. The lovely burnt malt and currant flavours are well balanced by a moderate sweetness finishing with a mild bitterness. (5%)

Celebrate 'Christmas in July' (Saturday, 19 July)

Beer Competition Results

As you know, we are passionate about premium boutique beer and are always striving for perfection with each and every beer we brew. By entering beer competitions and having independent beer experts taste and judge your beer, it keeps you focused and always looking for improvements in the quest for the 'best beer'. And so, we compete in several Australian and international beer competitions.

Redoak won the coveted 'Champion International Small Brewery' Trophy at the Australian International Beer Awards 2008. This is the world's second largest beer competition with 1,084 entries from 217 breweries across 42 countries - a lot of beers! In the Sydney Royal Beer Competition in March 08, we won two of the five Gold medals awarded for our Special Strong Bitter and Special Reserve.  Congratulations to our brewing team who work hard and long hours to brew an extensive range of award winning beers!

Post Awards Party - Friday, 11th April

We believe it's important to take time out and celebrate life's successes, big or small.  We believe these recent wins are significant achievements and were worth celebrating - so we all enjoyed a Post Awards Celebration.

'Special Gold Winners' Party - Friday, 18th April

Redoak's Special Strong Bitter & Special Reserve both won Gold medals at the Sydney Royal Beer Competition a few weeks ago. The Special Strong Bitter (SSB) also won a Gold medal at last weeks Australian International Beer Awards.  Our brewers thought the SSB  was awesome and raved about it and they were right!  Redoak's Special Reserve continues to be a winning brew with a Gold medal in addition to the prestigious 'Grand Champion Trophy' at AIBA 2006.

Special Strong Bitter - If you haven't tasted the Special Strong Bitter yet, this high strength brew is not for the faint hearted. It is a rich, flavoursome full bodied bitter with strong caramel, toffee notes and floral aromas. This smooth drinking ale exhibits a strong hoppy bitterness and is perfect to enjoy after a big day. (5.6%)

Special Reserve - This wood-aged barley wine specialty beer (it really is a beer!) has gone through three fermentations and is matured on various types of oak for several years which adds a unqiue dimension and complexity to the beer. (12%) This is definitely one that should be fully appreciated, savoured and enjoyed and improves immensely as it warms. It is usually served in a cognac-style glass in a 50ml serve but going forward it will be sold by the bottle only.

So, we held a 'Special Gold Winners' party for the two gold winners!

Redoak celebrates Valentine's Day

Redoak helped many people celebrateValentine's Day with a difference. The lucky diners enjoyed a delightful and special crafted menu and great tasting beer with a few extra touches.

Beer Launches

Our most recent beer launches have been:

Double American India Pale Ale - For those of you who love our award winning India Pale Ale (IPA), you'll just love this new beer currently on tap. The Redoak American Double India Pale Ale (phew, quite a tongue twister!) is true to style. With a deep golden brown colour this beer is like liquid amber directly from the hop plants. The very intense hop bitterness has been created from a selection of various American hops, creating fruity floral and citrus perceptions. This beer has complex alcoholic flavours and its rich body leaves 'legs on the glass' so to speak, so at 8% it is a beer for true beer connoissuers. The feedback to date has been awesome. This beer is not to be missed!

Christmas Cheer (2007 vintage) is a highly spiced winter ale to be enjoyed while the days are still cold. A popular beer served from bottles all year round will be on tap. Nothing quite beats tasting a beer on tap. It is brewed to Grandma Redoak's original family pudding recipe.

wee Heavy Ale  (2007 vintage) - The wee Heavy's reputation builds every year as the 'biggest' beer launch. I guess with such an amazing beer at 8% alcohol and on tap for one day of the year only, means it is worth being there for. Wear your kilt, join the bag piper. Redoak's wee Heavy Ale is a Scottish Ale in the traditional style. It is a bold malt driven ale with a reddish brown hue. It is brewed using the finest Pale and Dark malts and a genuine Scottish malt. With it's high alcohol content at 8%, this rich malty sweet ale certainly lives up to its name.

and drum roll please......the Bock made a comeback in 2007. Now we knew that some of you would be wanting hammocks again to camp the night at Redoak for this beer launch.

Cask-conditioned hand pumped real English Ale

Come along and enjoy a English Real Ale brewed with a very strong hoppy note, cask conditioned and poured on our hand pump. Now's your chance to enjoy the very old tradition of an english beer poured by hand (and a very strong hand is needed too). A new cask will be opened on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month and is available on tap until the cask runs dry.

Next cask openings are from 6pm on:

  • 25th February
  • 10th March
  • 24th March

Oktoberfest celebrations at Redoak

Redoak launches its Oktoberfest celebrations on 22nd September with traditional german music, german faire and our freshly brewed Oktoberfest Lager in steins. The festivities continued through to 6th October. Who needs a better excuse than to celebrate Oktoberfest - a beer lovers dream!

So, why is it called 'Oktober'-fest when it actually begins in September?  The first Oktoberfest was held in 1810 in honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The festivities began on October 12, 1810 and ended on October 17. In the following years, the celebrations were repeated and, later, the festival was prolonged and moved forward into September.

New Brews

David is quietly conditioning a Berlinerweiss! Berlinerweiss is a very pale beer with a white foamy head with light body & low bitterness. (2.9%)

Did you know years ago in Berlin, Germany when Napoleon and his troops called this beer the 'champagne of the north' the brewers would actually store and condition the beer under ground for up to two years before it was served.

For those of you that know the German Beer Purity law of 1516 called "Rheinheitsgebot Law" and would like a clue, then remember that this is the only beer style that the German Purity Law would allow to have additions put into it other than purely grain, yeast, hops and water. David being the eternal purist of course, always brews German beers according to the Purity Law but this is the only exception.

Stay tuned for this release as David has quite a surprise up his sleeve for this beer.

Australian International Beer Awards 2007

MELBOURNE - The Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) 2007 is the equivalent of the Oscars for the beer industry and was held on Thursday, 19th April at the Sofitel. This years competition was another great event with tough competition, a large number of entrants, both locally and internationally and high quality beer.

Redoak attended the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) for our 4th consecutive year. This year's competition included 941 beers, 189 breweries across 38 nations. It is now ranked the second largest international beer competition in the world after the World Beer Cup, USA. It has knocked the UK & European Beer competitions off the second spot for the second year now.

As last year's reigning Grand Champion winner, it was with mixed emotions that we went to the Awards ceremony. However, Janet, David and supporters flew to Melbourne, got dressed up for the occasion (David did take off his brewery boots thankfully!) and arrived in plenty of time to enjoy a drink or two savouring the last few hours as the Grand Champion Winner for 2006.

Grand Champion Trophy Winner 2007 - David was overheard saying to a fellow brewer "And may the best beer in the world win the trophy." Well, it has indeed been awarded to an awesom beer and brewery. The Grand Champion Trophy was won by the Weihenstephan Brewery for its Weinhenstephan Kristal Bier. Incidentally, it is the world's oldest brewery and still operating today after 1,000 or so years in business. In fact for a few hundred years they were the only brewery allowed to brew wheat beer in Germany - which is why they must have perfected the art!. Years ago David was very impressed by the brewery and has indeed visited it on three separate occasions and spent many hours tasting and enjoying their beers. He has even used one of their yeast strains in one of Redoak's beers. Congratulations to Weihenstephan!

Redoak, fellow Australian brewing comrades and loyal customers were sad to see the trophy and title go offshore but remain ever optimistic of winning it back in future years. Here's to continuing to brew great beer in Australia!

We celebrated through out the evening as Redoak was the most awarded Australian brewery again winning over 40 awards (Best in Class, Gold, Silver & Bronze medals) and the evening was topped off when we won Champion Porter for the Redoak Old Baltic Porter

Redoak's Annual Post Beer Awards Party - Thursday, 31st May 07

All in all, it was another great beer competition at AIBA and is certainly helping to raise the bar and profile of Australian beer and brewers to the rest of the world. We look forward to sharing with you all a great year of award winning beers, beer yarns, launching new brews, releasing new vintages and continuing our quest for beer appreciation.

Beer Launch - (Holly Porter)

Our latest beer to be launched was the Holly Porter which was chosen for the dubious day of Friday the 13th April..  Redoak's Holly Porter is a brown porter with a strong bitter chocolate malt aroma with subtle roasted complexities. A bitter chocolate characteristic is initially apparent which then progresses to a mocha-coffee taste explosion. The mouth feel is silky smooth with a creamy finish and smooth roasted notes (6.4%). It has already been nicknamed by our customers as the 'Holy Water'

Royal Perth Beer Show - Friday, 30th March 07

PERTH - David Hollyoak, our Master Brewer, attended the inaugural Royal Perth Beer Show held on Friday, 30th March 07. Redoak is very proud to have won a trophy for Best Packaged Pilsener for our Bavarian Pilsener. Well done Brewers - yet again!  Davidalso did beer tastings at the International Beer Shop, Perth over the weekend which were enjoyed by many of their customers and die-hard Redoakers.

Redoak  on TV - Friday, 30th March

No, we did't have a new multi-million dollar advertising campaign! We were invited to appear on Mornings with Kerri-Anne as part of her segment on the Royal Easter Show where they are looking at the 'Best of the Best' in Australian fine food.

NSW Royal Agricultural Show Beer Competition 2007

SYDNEY - Redoak performed exceptionally well at the NSW Royal Agricultural Show Beer Competition 2007. We won 4 silver medals (for our Brown Porter, Baltic Porter, Weizendoppelbock & Opera Bar Blonde) and 6 bronze medals.  Not only did Redoak win several awards, we also took out the top 3 scores of the competition - with the Baltic Porter, OperaBar Blonde & Weizendopplebock. The Baltic Porter was also the highest scored beer in its class. Well done again to our brewers for doing Redoak proud! We also did beer tastings at the Royal Easter show in the Good Drop Gallery. Everyone seemed to enjoy the sessions with lots of questions afterwards.

Celebrate St Paddys Day on Saturday, 17th March 2007

Redoak isn't normally open this early but every year we put on a fabulous St Paddy's Day brekky. Breakfast includes a generous buffet of bacon, eggs, sausages, tomatoes, baked beans & black and white pudding and a complimentary pint of Stout.

What is St Paddy's Day celebrations without a hearty pint of Irish Red Ale or Irish Stout. Redoak brews these beers using traditional Irish brewing methods and ingredients. The beers are to be enjoyed with your breakfast, lunch, dinner or for a celebratory drink.

  • IRISH STOUT - Redoak's dry Irish Stout has a lovely creamy chocolate and coffee aroma with an initial malt flavour and medium body followed by a strong roasted bitterness on the finish. 5%
  • IRISH RED ALE - Redoak's Irish Red Ale has a rich red-amber colour with a caramel malt sweetness and medium body with a fruity aroma. At 4.5% alcohol, this will be a refreshing way to start, continue or end your St Paddy's day!

Drop by any time of the day as we will have traditional Irish music, traditional Irish beers together with our usual boutique beers being served, Irish-themed additions to our food menu and of course, loads of good irish fun....

Australian Hotel Beer Awards & Beer Festival

The October long weekend is the annual Australian Hotel Beer Festival at the Rocks where a group of breweries gather to show their brews, brewers chat to the crowds and everyone enjoys the sunshine. There is always a lot of interest in our beers and sorbets. The weekend culminates in the presentation of the Australian Hotel Beer Awards.

  • In 2007 - we won the Champion Australian Ale (for Redoak India Pale Ale) and Champion Specialty Beer (for Christmas Cheer Beer).
  • In 2006, Redoak Brewery excelled by taking out two of six Best in Show awards. Redoak Organic Hefeweizen won Best Wheat Beer and Redoak's Christmas Cheer Beer won Best 'Specialty' Beer category in the recent beer competition held by The Australian Hotel at The Rocks, Sydney.

Launch of 2006 vintage of Rauch Bier - 11 August 06

Redoak's Rauch Bier is a rich copper coloured lager with a dense caramel head and a sweet, smoked malt flavour and aroma. The Rauch Bier is indigenous to Bamberg, Germany. It incorporates the finest Munich malts, Beechwood smoked malt and subtle hopping. This beer is a unique balance of sweet toasty malt with smoked accents and a warming finish.

Redoak's Rauch Bier is the world's best smoke-flavoured beer as it won a gold medal at the World Beer Cup 2006 for the smoke-flavoured beer category. It won up against many well known beers, including German beers which is where the beer style originated. (Fact: Only 6 Australian beers have ever won a gold medal at a World Beer Cup and Redoak is proud to have 2 of them!)

Release of our India Pale Ale - 18 August 2006

Redoak's India Pale Ale has been brewed to the tradition of Burton-on-Trent in England. With ten times the amount of hops as our Organic Pale Ale the English Kent Goldings and Fuggles flowers have resulted in a fresh fruit aroma, lovely mouth coating and a huge back bitterness. The caramel malt flavour and big back bitterness will continue to linger. This India Pale Ale will extinguish and cool the hottest of dishes. 6.5%

Baltic Porter launch - 5 August

This beer style originated in Russia for Catherine the Great in the Royal Court in the 17th century. David first tasted a Baltic Porter in 1994 in a small café in Poland and no-one seemed to know what it was. Internationally, it was a lost beer style until discovered by Michael Jackson (the Beer expert) in 1997. (5.5%). This beer style is currently experiencing a revival of interest. Redoak's Baltic Porter has been brewed true to style and is a rich tasting beer with a velvet smoothness on the palate, a burnt currant fruitiness, followed by a warmth embrace of alcohol.

Redoak celebrates St Ives Day

Saint Ives is the Patron Saint for Attorneys, Jurists and Lawyers and died on 19 May 1303. To recogniseand celebrate this occasion, legal personel and teams enjoyed complimentary canapes and award winning beers.

Ricky Ponting's Book Launch

We were thrilled to have the opportunity to host Ricky Ponting's recent book launch in November 2004.

Redoak's First Charity Event & we continue to support this event

Amber Affair is an annual beer tasting event with 10 breweries which was held last night at the Argyle Centre as a fund raiser for the Sydney Childrens Hospital. A great crowd gather to taste the many beers on display, chat to the brewers on hand and show their support for the hospital.

In 2007 support they did, with a signed Wallaby Jersey being sold for $1,100 and 2 tickets to a Redoak Beer Class and boxes of Redoak beers sold for a fabulous $1,200. Redoak has supported this event for three years now and were thrilled at the level of interest and support shown this year. A big thank you to everyone who attended!
